Anonymous person puts the Kirkbride on Craiglist

Craigslist and the Kirkbride building might not seem like the perfect pair, but at least one person thought the two would go great together. That’s what Fergus Falls’ Community Development Director Gordon Hydukovich found out on Tuesday morning, when he discovered that someone had listed the building on the popular classified ad website.

Recently, Hydukovich has been sending out a notice to businesses, business organizations, preservation organizations and others in order to get out the word that the Fergus Falls State Hospital is for sale. “The sale price,” the notice states, “is required to be at fair market value, which according to the last appraisal, is $1.” However, the notice goes on to state, the buyer of the property would also have to present a development plan and proof that they have money to finance that development.

The notice goes on to give information about the building and information about Fergus Falls, highlighting all of the projects the building has been considered for in the past. “(The building) stimulates the imagination by its size, form and presentation,” reads the notice.

Hydukovich said that apparently someone who had gotten the notice decided to put it up on Craigslist, but he doesn’t know who or whether the person was trying to be funny or serious. The Craigslist ad includes a link to a page of photos of the building.

The notice includes Hydukovich’s e-mail address, and throughout the day on Tuesday, he got a few goofy e-mails asking him about the building. However, he said he’s decided to leave the ad up to see where it leads — at least for now.

“The more exposure the better, I guess,” he said with a chuckle.

You can find the ad here.
